Goosemire Cottages are discounting all remaining August school holiday weeks by a massive 25% and short breaks are also being offered during this period.

There is plenty going on during August in the Lake District to keep the family entertained, some of the big upcoming events are listed in our previous goosemire cottages blog post.

Unlike a lot of agencies we do not have hidden extras for booking fees, pets, bed linen, cots or highchairs, therefore the price you see is the price you pay for your accommodation, NOT per person.

25% Self catering accommodation in the Lake District and Eden Valley can be great value for money and with all the properties having fully equipt kitchens you can save a fortune by dining in, so your food budget need not be any more expensive than if you had stayed at home for the week. A family of 4 can stay for a weeks holiday in eden valley self catering cottages from as little as £319, which works out at just over £11 per person per night!

Also if you are on a tight budget keeping the family entertained need not be expensive. There is plenty to do in the lakes for free or which wont cost the family a lot of money. Here are just some examples which spring to mind -

1. Go for a walk or bike ride, and save money on food and drink by taking a picnic.

2. Feed the Swans and Ducks down by the lake in Bowness on Windermere. Three bags of duck food costs £1, or take a loaf of bread with you.

3. Visit Brockhole which is between Windermere and Ambleside. Walk round the grounds, and down to the lakeshore. The children can play for free at the large wooden adventure playground, or take a football there is plenty of open spaces. All this for the cost of a car parking ticket!

4. Go on a Treasure Hunt its a great way to explore the towns of the Lake District and discover all about its secrets and past. You can download a treasure map for £5.99 by visiting  http://www.treasuretrails.co.uk/cumbria/things-to-do.html

5. The National Trust are running an offer throughout August where you can download a voucher for free entry for kids  https://join.nationaltrust.org.uk/voucher/register which would be an ideal way to keep the family entertained on a wet day.

6. A family ticket to The Laurel & Hardy Museum in Ulverston 01229 582292 is only £8 which is another good way to dodge the rain.

7. Walk round the sculpture trail at Grizedale Forest which is suitable for all abilities (also pushchair and wheelchair friendly) then the children can play in the playground for free (you may need to pay for car parking)

8. Go in search of William Wordsworth’s Daffodils at Glencoyne Bay in Ullswater.

9. The Puzzling Place in Keswick 01768 775102 is great fun if its a wet day. A family ticket is £11.75 and under 5s go for free. You’ll come out scratching your head as some of the illusions such as sitting on a chair that goes uphill are truly mind boggling.

10. Pay a visit to Haig Colliery Mining Museum at Kells near Whitehaven.  This fascinating  museum  is Cumbria´s last deep coal mine. Free entry, and disabled facilities are also available. Visit www.haigpit.com for more details.
