A beloved pet is a large part of family life, so why should it be put in a kennel when the family go on holiday?

Sending a pet to a kennel whilst you are on holiday can be inconvenient should there not be a kennel local to where you live, expensive and many owners hate the thought of having to leave their dog or pet when they go away. Taking a dog abroad has its problems with quarantining etc but if the holiday is in the UK, why not take your pet? It is now far easier to take your pet away with you without compromising on the choice of holiday.

Ulverston Dickensian Christmas Festival

Ulverston’s Dickensian style two day festival attracts thousands of people each year. The Christmas festival is in its 13th year, and this year the festival takes place on the weekend of 26th and 27th November.

It is one of the most popular Dickensian style festivals in the country and gives locals and visitors the chance to experience the atmosphere of how life would be in a traditional market town in the 1850s. The Dickensian Festival is organised by a local committee of volunteers on a non-profit basis, relying on fund raising, sponsorships, grants and donations from local businesses. There is a real great community spirit with the local shop keepers getting into the spirit of the festival and wearing traditional period clothing. With Ulverston’s cobbled streets and ginnels, old worldy pubs and unique speciality shops, it only adds to the feeling of stepping back in time.

2011 marks the 18th Westmorland Beer Festival, which is organised and run on a voluntary basis by CAMRA members. The event not only helps raise funds for CAMRA to campaign on a local and national level, but also much needed funds for charities, which this year is the Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

CAMRA campaigns for real ale, real pubs, and consumer rights. With over 125,000 members it has been described as the most successful consumer group in Europe.

Ullswater Outdoor Festival 2011

Formarly known as the Ullswater Walking Festival this years event takes place from 24th September until 2nd October. Over the nine days there will be 20 guided walks around the stunning Ullswater valley with Lake District National Park Voluntary Rangers. Most of the walks are free, but should be booked in advance with Ullswater Tourist Information Centre 01768 482414. Some walks will also be dog friendly, and will cater for the hearing impared. Many of our self catering cottages in the Ullswater area are pet friendly, and pets go free.
