If you are staying in one of our lake district cottages or apartments in the South Lakes why not visit Kendal and the Farmers market which is held on the last Friday of every month between 9:30am to 3:30pm.

From award-winning meat and cheeses to jams and relishes, Made in Cumbria who organise The Farmers Market, bring you the best and tastiest of the region's food and drink - all locally sourced and lovingly produced.

Kendal is the gateway to the Lakes and is only 9 miles from Windermere. It was the largest town in the old County of Westmorland before it became part of Cumbria. Kendal is known by locals as “the Auld Grey Town” due to the fact many of the buildings date back to Victorian times and are constructed from local limestone. However there are much older buildings, in particular the “Yards” for which the town is also famous for.

Its most famous export has to be Kendal Mint Cake, which was taken on the 1953 Everest expedition. Sir Edmund Hilary and Sirdar Tensing ate their mint cake at the top of Everest as they gazed at the countryside below them.
