The lake district is often referred to as the adventure capital of the UK and with good reason. Below is a list of 10 companies who are based in the South Lakes or South Lakes Peninsula's, offering some of the more unusual, adventurous and adrenaline fuelled activities:

4. If your looking for something to do one evening or on a wet day then Cumbria Karting in Barrow in Furness is open until 10pm every day. They offer various packages from practice laps right up to grand prix and teamendurance (which both include free bowling). For younger children aged 6-13 a compulsory driving licence course where there is an indepth safety talk then 30 minutes on the indoor racing circuit. 5. Staveley a small village between Kendal and Windermere, and at the foot of Kentmere is a mecca for mountain bikers. Kentmere and Garburn Pass are very well known routes and have been published numerous times over the years in various mountain biking magazines. If you require mountain bike hire or just want some advice on routes in the area then pop in and see the friendly staff at Wheelbase who are in the old woodyard in the centre of the village. 6. Surf The Turf Adrenaline Sports Action Park is based just outside the market town of Kendal in the South Lake District. They offer a range of activities including Zorbing and Mountain Board lessons by experienced instructors. Various Mountain Board hire options. They also have a range of dirt and wooden jumps, a large quarter pipe and a 450 yard Boarder X / 4x racetrack that can be ridden by Mountain Boards and also BMX and Mountain Bikes. 7. A balloon ride over Lake Windermere with High Adventure Balloons is the perfect way for you to mark any special occassion.
