2011 marks the 18th Westmorland Beer Festival, which is organised and run on a voluntary basis by CAMRA members. The event not only helps raise funds for CAMRA to campaign on a local and national level, but also much needed funds for charities, which this year is the Cumbria Wildlife Trust.

CAMRA campaigns for real ale, real pubs, and consumer rights. With over 125,000 members it has been described as the most successful consumer group in Europe.

The event is held at Kendal Town Hall, Highgate, Kendal, LA9 4DL. The festival runs from Wednesday 12th to Saturday 15th October, and is open each day from 12 noon to 11:00pm.

Over the years the festival has built a reputation for serving over 55 real ales and 10 ciders and perries, with a large selection coming from the numerous Cumbrian breweries.

If this isn’t enough to wet your palette then The Swan Inn at Ulverston LA12 7LX, will be holding its Octoberfest from 27th to 31st October. The festival starts at 4pm on 27th where there will be over 80 beers from all over the UK and live music and good food every night.
