Olympic Flame carried through South Lakeland

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games has announced the route that the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay will take as it passes through the South Lakes on the opening day of the Olympics 21st June 2012.

The first village to welcome the Olymic Torch in the South Lakes will be Grasmere, then it will make its way to Ambleside and then Bowness on Windermere. There will be a special celebration on the evening of 21st June at the Glebe (down by the lake) in Bowness on Windermere.  At the free event Les Commandos Percu will world premiere their new music, drumming and pyrotechniques show. The Olympic Torch will then depart from Kendal on 22nd as it makes its way towards Lancashire.

On the final day of the Relay, the Olympic Flame will travel down the River Thames as it makes its way to the Olympic Stadium on 27th July for the lighting of the cauldron at the opening ceremony.
