Great North Swim

The British Gas Great North Swim is the UK's biggest outdoor swimming event, and will again take place at The Low Wood Hotel on Lake Windermere from 22nd to 24th June 2012. Lake Windermere is England’s largest lake at 10.5 miles long and stretches from Newby Bridge in the South up to Waterhead, Ambleside in the North.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games has announced the route that the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay will take as it passes through the South Lakes on the opening day of the Olympics 21st June 2012.
